Let us learn a little about the sleep and wake systems of our brains and how they are supposed to be working together to keep you healthy and feeling rested.

Starting with the waking system of your brain: whenever you are waking up in the morning, your brain automatically starts sending signals that move you into a more alert and awake state.

This is what is helping you to stay awake throughout the entire day.

However, if these signals do not slow down by the time night rolls around, you are in a bit of a pickle.

Sometimes on those stressful nights your sleep system cannot overpower your alert wake system, which causes you to stay up.

This is where insomnia can sprout from.

When your two systems function as they should, they complement each other, taking turns being in charge and sending signals at the right times.

But that’s not always the case.

If your wake system stays active when it’s time to sleep, it’s considered to be in an overactive state and insomnia may be a result.

    Have got this friend, just leave him for 3mins doing nothing, he is already sleeping. What can we say is the problem? Is it that his brain cant control the signals?
